The Birth of Jesus Christ
Over two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ was born to Mary and Joseph in a humble manger in the town of Bethlehem.
The fact that the Son of God was born in poverty rather than a palace highlights the divine message of humility and boundless love for mankind. Angels proclaimed the good news to shepherds, and the Magi followed a guiding star to worship the newborn king.
The Christmas Crib and Star
A significant part of Christmas celebrations is the 'Crib' (Nativity scene) built in homes and churches, recreating the humble stable where Jesus was born.
Additionally, colorful star lanterns are hung outside Christian homes throughout December, representing the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Wise Men.
The Midnight Mass
On the night of December 24th, special midnight masses are held in all churches across Tamil Nadu. Families wear new clothes and attend the service together.
Choirs sing melodious Christmas carols, and exactly at midnight, the birth of Jesus is joyfully announced as people exchange 'Merry Christmas' greetings.
A Festival of Sharing
Homes are decorated with Christmas trees and twinkling lights. Children eagerly await gifts from Santa Claus.
Families bake delicious plum cakes, rose cookies, and traditional snacks, sharing them with neighbors, friends, and the less privileged to spread the joy of the season.
