The Passion of Christ
Jesus Christ was falsely accused, condemned to death, crowned with thorns, and brutally scourged. He was forced to carry his own heavy wooden cross to the hill of Calvary.
Even while enduring agonizing pain on the cross, Jesus prayed for his executioners, saying, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'
Way of the Cross
On Good Friday, churches conduct the 'Way of the Cross' devotion. Believers meditate on the 14 stations depicting the events from Jesus's condemnation to his burial.
In many famous shrines in Tamil Nadu, thousands of pilgrims walk up holy hills performing the Way of the Cross, deeply reflecting on Christ's suffering.
Liturgy and Fasting
No mass or Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Good Friday. The somber church service includes the reading of the Passion narrative, meditation on the 7 Last Words of Jesus, and the Veneration (kissing) of the Cross.
