Significance and Rules of Placing Kalasham at Home
What is a Kalasham?
A Kalasham (or Purna Kumbham) is a sacred arrangement made using a pot (usually made of copper, brass, or silver) filled with water or raw rice. It is topped with a coronet of mango leaves and a whole coconut placed in the center. It serves as a powerful symbol of abundance, cosmic wholeness, and the divine presence of deities.
Spiritual Philosophy of Kalasham
- The Five Elements: The Kalasham represents the union of the five vital elements of nature: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. The water inside symbolizes the sacred rivers and the primordial waters of creation.
- The Holy Trinity: According to Vedic scriptures, the base of the Kalasham represents Lord Brahma, the middle represents Lord Shiva, and the mouth represents Lord Vishnu.
- Abode of Goddess Lakshmi: The coconut and the sacred thread tied around the pot invoke the divine presence of Goddess Lakshmi, ensuring prosperity, wealth, and well-being in the household.
How to Setup a Kalasham Properly
The pot must be thoroughly cleaned and adorned with turmeric and kumkum. It can be filled with pure water (infused with a pinch of turmeric, edible camphor, and cardamom) or raw rice. Place 5 or 7 fresh mango leaves at the mouth of the pot, and position a whole coconut (smeared with turmeric) vertically in the center. Importantly, the Kalasham should never be placed directly on the floor. It must always be placed on a plate or banana leaf spread with raw rice.
Benefits
Setting up and worshipping a Kalasham correctly cleanses the home of negative energies and establishes powerful positive vibrations. It invites divine blessings, ensures peace, and paves the way for auspicious events to take place without any obstacles.
