What is Monthly Krithigai?

In the traditional Hindu lunar calendar, Krittika (Karthigai / Krithigai) is the third of the 27 Nakshatras (stars). This star is deeply associated with the birth and early life of Lord Murugan. According to mythology, Lord Murugan manifested as six sparks from the third eye of Lord Shiva. Six celestial nymphs, known as the Karthigai Pengal (Krittika sisters), raised Him. Hence, He is also called 'Karthikeyan'.

The day the moon aligns with the Krithigai star each month is observed as 'Masik Krithigai' or Monthly Krithigai. It is a day of immense spiritual power, especially for devotees in Tamil Nadu where Murugan is the primary deity.
