Birth of Prophet Muhammad

Prophet Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca on the 12th day of Rabi' al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

His birth brought a new dawn to a society plagued by ignorance. He preached the oneness of God, equality, compassion for the poor, and universal peace.

Recitation of Moulidu

On this day, Muslims gather in mosques and homes to recite 'Moulidu', traditional poetic praises of the Prophet's life and virtues. In Tamil Nadu, these are recited beautifully in both Arabic and Tamil.

Mosques and homes are brightly illuminated with decorative lights, and night-long spiritual gatherings (Dhikr Majlis) are held.

Charity and Feasting

Prophet Muhammad strongly advocated for the care of the poor and orphans. Following his teachings, mass feeding (Annadanam) is organized on this day.

People prepare special dishes like Biryani and sweets, distributing them generously among relatives, neighbors, and the less fortunate.

Special Discourses (Bayan)

Religious scholars deliver special sermons (Bayan) in mosques, highlighting the Prophet's exemplary character, simple lifestyle, and profound teachings.

These discourses serve as a reminder for the younger generation to emulate his patience, honesty, and respect for elders and women.
